My wife tells me that I’m a nicer person after being on my bike, which I think sums up cycling for me.
I’m looking forward to welcoming cyclists from all over Europe to our wonderful Welsh town and surrounding landscape. It’s been a busy period getting Peloton off the ground but now that we’re up and running I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our exciting new venture!
I started cycling in 2010 when I naively agreed to co-organise a charity bike ride from Bristol to Barcelona. After buying a bike only 6 weeks beforehand it was a challenge full of learning curves, but I never looked back. Since then I’ve cycled most of Europe and co-ordinated various rides as well as enjoying a few seasons with our local Ystwyth Cycling Club, taking part in various time trials and races. I was also a key member in establishing the Aberystwyth Cycle Festival, which has put Aberystwyth on the map as the cycling destination in Wales.
The Nant y Moch climb is probably the closest thing we have in Wales to an alpine pass, and I always try and get this into a ride whether it’s just a couple of hours or a longer day in the saddle.
I would have to say Nant yr Arian visitor centre, just before descending back down the A44 to Aberystwyth. The coffee is great, and the view is incredible.
You are only a ride away from a good mood!
I have been on many tours across Europe and always feel that Aberystwyth and the surrounding area can compete with the best of them. I’m looking forward to welcoming cycling enthusiasts to my home town and my goal for co-hosting the cycling tours is to make sure that everyone gets the best possible experience.
I started cycling ‘properly’ in 2005 after playing rugby for nearly 20 years. I have since competed in a number of races and also participated in the Island Games where I raced against some UCI riders (well, at the early stages).
I now ride about 6,000 miles every year, mostly with my local club Ystwyth, which I Chaired for 5 years.
Hard to pick a favorite climb, although what makes them good for me is the banter on the way up and sparring with your friends!
Don’t bother giving me an espresso, I want a proper mug of coffee ideally followed by another one, with either bara brith or Welsh cakes.
